After a busy few weeks ONH is back at the office and comparing project notes.
ONH at events
Over the weekend, ONH was invited to speak at the ALDC Lib Dem Town & Parish Councillor Conference, Neil delivered an introduction to Neighbourhood Planning, what it is, how it works and the many advantages. Just a few days later Neil joined the Rural Services Network rural planning seminar panel, this time talking about case studies, NIMBYs, YIMBYs and a new phenomenon NIYBY! Both events had some excellent questions, and we look forward to hearing about new projects that emerge from the attendees.
Blackbird Leys, Oxford
This remarkable parish is one of only three within the city of Oxford and has a unique history. Construction began in the 1950s, with the site planned as part of the post-war housing boom, to accommodate families and workers at the nearby Morris car factory. For complex reasons Blackbird Leys has had a tricky past, but many positives too - including a strong and passionate community eager to help shape the future through its first neighbourhood plan project.
Sandleheath, Hampshire
ONH was hosted by Sandleheath Parish Council, who gave them a tour of the village. One of ONH's new digital products is a mobile app that allows our team to record more data in the field, and these site visits are important when preparing for design codes. Sandleheath village is very much part of the landscape and surrounding New Forest District ancient woodlands, with buildings and access hidden from the main road. We were particularly taken by a lime tree by the old school gates, suspected to have the 3rd largest lime tree girth in the country at 6.52m!
National Strategic Infrastructure Project
Our team were invited by a community group to discuss an upcoming National Strategic Infrastucture Project (NSIP), the planning process for approval and community engagement. A thoroughly thought-provoking visit.
Grappenhall, Cheshire
Earlier in the month, the team were in Grappenhall in Cheshire, looking closely at conservation areas and design. The area's distinct architecture and history was apparent - highlighting the advantages that very local plans, focused on smaller areas, can have.
Buckingham, Buckinghamshire
Finally, we finished the week in Buckingham, analysing regulation 14 consultation results and looking at next steps.
