We are delighted to announce that The Farnhams Neighbourhood Plan has passed its referendum, following a resounding 92% ‘yes’ vote.
This marks a significant milestone for the community, ensuring that future development in Farnham Royal and Farnham Common will be shaped by local priorities and aspirations. The Plan has been the result of close collaboration between the Parish Council, a dedicated steering group of local residents, and the team at ONH. Our role was to provide expert guidance throughout the process, from early evidence gathering to the final stages of plan preparation and examination.
A particular highlight of the process was an informational event hosted jointly by the Parish Council and ONH the week before the referendum. With well over 100 local residents in attendance, the event featured a panel answering questions on the Plan’s vision for the future to enable the local community to make their choice at the referendum. The high turnout and lively discussion demonstrated the community’s strong engagement and commitment to shaping their area. The Farnhams Neighbourhood Plan sets out a clear framework for managing growth sensitively, supporting a greater mix of housing types and tenures, and protecting the area’s valued green spaces and heritage. The introduction of a detailed Design Code will ensure that all new development is of high quality and respects the unique character of the parish.
The Plan also places a strong emphasis on sustainability, biodiversity, and active travel, including a ‘shared woodland area’ policy created in collaboration with neighbouring Stoke Poges. We are proud to have supported the Parish Council in achieving this important outcome and look forward to seeing the positive impact of the Plan in the years ahead.
