Thank you to all the clerks, councillors and community groups that we have met in person over the last month. Brendan, Neil, Louise and Matt were delighted to talk to c.200 representatives of local government and neighbourhood forums at three different events.
Cheshire, Buckinghamshire and London talk Settlement Spatial Planning
Neighbourhood Planning in Cheshire: What Next? was a fantastic way to kick off the month with an evening meeting in Tarvin. With a warm welcome from local councillors and clerks, we discussed the impact of national policy changes on Cheshire & Warrington, alongside local concerns from settlement hierarchy changes and growth capacity to the emerging Local Plan.

On Monday 16th June, we headed over to Aylesbury for the BMKALC Place Shaping Annual Conference. The announcement that the neighbourhood plan support programme wasn't being continued had just been made, and top of many people's concerns were resources for planning projects. Both Buckinghamshire and Cheshire are strongly impacted by the national changes to green belt and the introduction of grey belt. We were kindly invited to host an update on planning changes for the attendees, as well as an interactive workshop. Our hands on workshop focused on site analysis and how to use spatial planning to match future development with local project opportunities.
We finished off this week with a trip to London for the NALC Power Shift Conference. This National Conference featured a host of guests and speakers, including empowering talks from town councils taking a lead in the delivery of services through devolution deals. Interest at all three events was high in our new Settlement Spatial Plans. These are a cost effective way of analysing possibilities for future growth in your area. This flexible product can be utilised for Local Plan Representations, co-production or devolution projects, and for site allocation in Neighbourhood Plans.
Thank you to our hosts: Tarvin Community Centre, Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Association of Local Councils and the National Association of Local Councils. We always appreciate being asked to attend and share our knowledge, answer questions and generate ideas. Town and Parish Councils are the cornerstone of local communities, and ONH have been privileged to be able to work so closely on planning projects with local councils for more than 10 years.
Would you like us to host a planning event or attend a conference?
ONH are currently planning our next round of in person events through September and October 2025. If you are interested in having a planning consultancy that specialises in working with local councils attend your event, conference or online training session, please do get in touch. We're happy to travel and can deliver in person or online sessions anywhere in England.
