Oneill Homer provided masterplanning, architecture and project coordination for Castleford Riverside Regeneration for a scheme of 1,400 homes and a new local centre with employment, retail and community uses in Castleford, Wakefield. Planning approval was granted in June 2018 and the first phase is underway.

Working with Wakefield District Council we developed a masterplan that will deliver a key element of the Aire River Growth Corridor Housing Zone and create a ‘walkable neighbourhood’ providing accessible connections for new residents and the existing community, and helping the regeneration and revitalisation of the town centre.

The considerable technical challenges of these post-industrial brownfield riverside sites including; flooding, contamination and an on-site CHP power station were addressed through a green infrastructure framework that accommodated wayleaves and maximised site value.

A linear park running through the scheme as part of the ‘walkable neighbourhood’ strategy creates value and provides an engineering solution to flood storage, a high pressure gas wayleave and a buffer for the CHP plant.
