Steeple Claydon is a rural parish spread over an area of about 5 square miles in
the north-west corner of the AylesburyVale District in Buckinghamshire.
The recently adopted Steeple Claydon Neighbourhood Plan was prepared to protect the special rural character of the village and its surrounding landscape setting while planning for the sustainable growth of the village to 2033 within the context of HS2 and E–W Rail projects which will have a major impact on the Parish.
Working closely with the District Council, who at the time was preparing a new
spatial and growth strategy for the District, the Neighbourhood Plan was able to allocate two sites to meet the local housing needs of the village and make a positive contribution to housing supply in the District for the plan period. The land also provided an opportunity to address two challenges in the village: to
relocate the existing, small convenience store and the GP surgery. Both facilities
needed larger, modern premises to serve the local community.
At the time there was no certainty that either of these facilities would relocate, but both facilities would need to expand to meet the future needs of Steeple Claydon.
As well as meeting the necessary requirements of the regulations, we
assisted in writing all policies that included identification of a settlement boundary for the village; the allocation of land for housing development; the relocation of the existing GP surgery and Co-op store with guidance for redevelopment of the existing sites; seeking to protect Local Green Spaces and community facilities and providing design guidance for new developments.
